UBalt CARES and HEERF Grants

The US Department of Education offers the UBalt CARES and HEERF scholarships to students who have been significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund, established by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, provides this funding (CRRSAA).

The CARES and HEERF grants will help support UBalt students who are facing financial difficulties as a consequence of the Corona virus, including eligible expenses covered by a student’s costs of attendance, such as but not limited to

• Tuition and Fees

• Food assistance

• Technology needs

• Course materials purchase needs

• Food assistance

• Assistance with medical and mental health care, as well as childcare costs

A student needs to submit an application using their UBalt Login details. Students may apply for up to $1,000 financial support for the Fall semester.

• The Department of Financial Aid would then review applications for financial support.

• A student’s proposal may be enriched by additional details or documents.

• Before students submit an application or enroll in direct deposit refunds, they must ensure that their local address is updated on their MyUB Portal.

• The Office of Financial Aid will contact a student about their application status within 5 business days.

• The summer 2022 semester application deadline was August 8, 2022.

Who Can Apply for the UBalt CARES/HEERF Grant?

Eligibility for Registration

• Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters: A new or returning student enrolled at least half-time in a Title IV eligible UBalt degree or certificate program. Half-time enrollment in the fall and spring semesters is 6 credits.

• Summer 2023 semester: A new or continuing student enrolled at least half-time in a Title IV eligible degree or certificate program at UBalt. Half-time enrollment for the summer semester is 6 credits for undergraduates and 3 credits for graduate/law/APD students.

Students must meet all criteria listed to qualify

• Must have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

o For the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters, a 2022-2023 FAFSA application is required.

o In a case where your citizenship status does not qualify you to complete a FAFSA, you may apply and indicate on the application that you are an international student.

Those Who Do Not Qualify for the UBalt CARES/HEERF Grant?

• A student pursuing a non-degree program.

• A student who does not meet the Adequate Academic Progress (SAP) requirements for financial aid

Reports on UBalt CARES Act/HEERF Funding

According to the US Department of Education guidelines, the University of Baltimore submits an initial 30-day report after submitting our CARES Act application and certification for funds allocated under 18004(a) on April 21, 2020. (1).

The University of Baltimore Student Emergency Assistance Fund was developed by the Offices of Student Support and Financial Aid in partnership with Institutional Advancement and numerous generous alumni and supporters to establish a network of support for students.

The University of Baltimore has established an emergency fund for students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal is to prevent a minor emergency or unexpected expense from derailing a student’s progress towards their degree. This grant is open to all students, including those that do not qualify for the UBalt CARES Act due to federal requirements.
